One thing’s for certain… our neighbors really know how to party. Thank you to everyone who came out and made our Summer Ale Launch Party a huge success on Saturday night. The Ocean Mist was at capacity and selling a ton of Summer, Lager, and Light tall boys. BRU MC’d the night while Anarchy Eyewear was raffling off the new Hi Neighbor Shades. DJ Seventy7 got everyone warmed up before the bands. The Tower & The Fool played an amazing set with some new songs from their recent record, How Long. Then both The Colour & The Shape and The Blue Album rocked the crowd playing all hits from Foo Fighters and Weezer from back in the day. If you missed it, then… well we really don’t know what to say than, “Too Good To Miss!”

This Weekend: The Return Of The Brew Fest Frenzy /2012/04/this-weekend-the-return-of-the-brew-fest-frenzy /2012/04/this-weekend-the-return-of-the-brew-fest-frenzy#comments Fri, 27 Apr 2012 13:47:09 +0000 admin mat /?p=24549

I cannot make this stuff up. There are two amazing beer fests happening tomorrow and both make it really hard to choose from. If you’re a carnivorous meat-eater who craves salty snacks, then Boston’s Bacon and Beer Fest is for you. If you have a seafaring soul that craves historical culture, then the first ever Newport Craft Beer Fest is your winner. Then again you should have made this decision weeks ago because both festivals are sold out. See, I told you they were amazing. If you’re lucky enough to have tickets, then stop by our booth at either for some Hi Neighbor fun.  Here’s more info on both festivals:

2012 Boston Bacon and Beer Festival – Saturday, April 28th 2:30PM-5PM

Kicking off 2012 Boston Bacon and Beer Week, the 2012 Boston Bacon and Beer Festival will be Saturday, April 28th from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM at  the House of Blues Boston. Restaurants and purveyors from all over will be preparing their tastiest bacon based dishes for you to sample paired with beers from New England’s greatest breweries. If that’s not a good enough way to spend a Saturday afternoon, you should know that it’s also a benefit for the local hunger relief organizations Lovin’ Spoonfuls and Community Servings. Your ticket gets you in to Bacon and Beer Fest where you’ll be able to sample the dishes and the beer. There will be other people there with the same intention, so remember to share.

The First Annual Newport Craft Beer Festival will be held on April 28th, 2012 at the Great Friend’s Meeting House Lawn in Newport, RI from 2-6pm.  Over 30 breweries will be on site to show off their hand crafted brews to 500 craft beer lovers! This festival will celebrate Newport’s rich brewing history (dating back before the American Revolution!) and proceeds will benefit the Newport Historical Society.  Brewers will travel from as far as California, and as close as Newport’s North End!   Guests will be given the opportunity to try small samples of a spectrum of craft brews and converse with the folks who made them.  The South Shore Homebrew club will be brewing on site and happy to answer questions of those curious about learning to brew themselves…  Acoustical music will set a relaxed tone while restaurants from the up-and-coming lower Broadway area serve up tasty nibbles!

Narragansett Brewing Company Honors 1962 Hi Neighbor Girl

On Wednesday, December 5th, representatives of the press, radio and TV; Narragansett distributors; trade association representatives; and special guests attended the 1962 Hi Neighbor Festival Banquet at the Sheraton-Kimball in Springfield.
On behalf of the Narragansett Brewing Company, two Pioneer Valley distributors – Al Jacobsohn of A & J Sales Co., Springfield and Douglas Abercrombieof Luey & Abercrombie, Inc., Greenfield – presented a check for $1,000 to the happy Anita Merriam of Springfield. The charming Miss Merriam had just been named Hi Neighbor Girl of 1962. They also presented each of the other Hi Neighbor Girls – Madeleine Kanski of Springfield, Janet Heffron of Holyoke, Vivian Pelland of Willimansett and Penny Sojka of Turner Falls – with beautiful engraved medallion bracelets.
Irehne Hennessy, Hi Neighbor Red Sox Girl and Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening, narrated a fashion show featuring all of the lovely Hi Neighbor Girls in a bevy of sport, late daytime and evening clothes.
The evening’s keynote is contained in a statement made by the brewery several years ago at the beginning of the Hi Neighbor Festival:
”The Narragansett Brewing Company is sponsoring a program of awards, special events and contest to promote better neighborliness here in Springfield, Holyoke, Greenfield area – and to introduce you to the neighborly beer with straight-from-the-barrel taste.”
We hope you find Narragansett a Good Neighbor and will enjoy the events planned by Narragansett for the coming year. Hi Neighbor – have a ‘Gansett!

Narragansett Brewing Co., Cranston, R.I.

From the newspaper ad prepared by Doherty, Clifford, Steers & Shenfield, Inc. appearing in several different newspapers on December 14, 1962.

Weekend Recap: New England Metal And Hardcore Festival /2012/04/weekend-recap-new-england-metal-and-hardcore-festival /2012/04/weekend-recap-new-england-metal-and-hardcore-festival#comments Mon, 23 Apr 2012 16:13:59 +0000 admin mat /?p=24469

The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival was this weekend at the Worcester Palladium. You bet your bottom dollar that Gansett was there. Killswitch Engage and Unearth were throwing back some beers during their signing. They topped the weekend off perfectly with an epic set and the return of original vocalist, Jesse Leach. Tall Boy got in on the action and might need some recovery time today. During Every Time I Die’s set, singer Keith Buckley announced that a giant can of beer was coming towards the stage. So some fans hoisted up Tall Boy and he crowd surfed his way to the front. Let’s just say the bouncers had their hands full. Beer, sweat, and metal. That’s what this weekend was all about. In the end this was all that was left:

Palladium floor at the end of the night. Please remember to recycle.

Killswitch Engage signing autographs and throwing back Gansetts.

Tall Boy crowd surfing during Every Time I Die. Not the best shot, but gets the point across.

Weekend Recap: Providence Grays /2012/04/weekend-recap-providence-grays /2012/04/weekend-recap-providence-grays#comments Mon, 23 Apr 2012 15:57:10 +0000 admin mat /?p=24460

The Providence Grays opened their season with a solid showing at the Bethpage Vintage Base Ball Tournament held at Bethpage, New York, on April 14 and 15. On Saturday, the Grays fell to the Brooklyn Atlantics 12-3 but rebounded to take the second game by a tally of 15-10.

On Sunday, Providence was nicked by the New York Mutuals, 9-8 but got the bats going in the latter game and won going away by a score of 24-8. In the team’s 15th campaign, Providence is returning to the form that once made them one of the top barehanded teams in the country and they continue to represent Rhode Island, not to mention Narragansett Beer, in vintage style.

Watch this space for further updates and Go Grays!”

Record Store Day /2012/04/record-store-day /2012/04/record-store-day#comments Fri, 20 Apr 2012 13:25:55 +0000 admin mat /?p=24442

“If you ever get lonely, just go the record store and visit your friends.” Words to live by from Miss Penny Lane in Crowe’s Almost Famous. One of my all time favorite lines because it’s so true. I could spend hours in a record store. Sorting throw bins upon bins of records. Each one individual in their own way. From the smell of the press, to the artwork, and of course that song that just hits so close to home it means more to you than anything, there’s nothing better than playing your favorite vinyl record. It’s like when you pick up a gem you haven’t listened to for ages and you remember why you feel in love with it the first time. It’s sitting on the porch enjoying a ‘Gansett with your best friend Presley and listening to the howl of good ‘ole Hank with the scratches in between. It’s falling in love all over again. Yes, these are the good hours ladies and gentleman. And it’s all about, “living, loving, she’s just a woman.” So get out there this weekend and visit your favorite record store. What Cheer Records, Newbury Comics, In Your Ear, Armageddon Shop, and so many more. Leave us a comment and tell us what some of your favorite records and stores are. I’ll leave you with this classic that was recorded over 60 years ago and still sounds pristine.
